Educationist Chaitanya Sharma passes away at 73

Kathmandu, November 1: Chaitanya Sharma, a prominent figure in Nepal's education sector, has passed away at the age of 73.     

He died on last Thursday at 4:30 PM while receiving treatment at the Om Hospital in Chabahil, Kathmandu district following a prolonged battle with neurological health issues, confirmed Dr. Devraj Aryal.     

According to Sharma’s family, his funeral will take place at Pashupati Aryaghat at 9:00 AM on coming Saturday. Sharma is survived by his spouse, two sons, a daughter. His body is currently dead body is kept in the Hospital.     

Professor Chiranjeevi Sharma shared that Sharma had previously sought medical treatment in Delhi, India after his condition failed to improve in Nepal.     

He was admitted to a private Hospital's ICU facility in India for some time before returning to the Om Hospital after the oxygen levels in his body alarmingly decreased.     

Sharma was an Associate Professor at the Tribhuvan University where he served as the Chairman of its Service Commission as well.     

He was the Head of the Madan Bhandari Memorial Campus for several years and was a founding General-Secretary of the Nepal Progressive Professors' Association.     

He also served as Vice-Chairman of the Council of Higher Secondary Education and was a candidate for the member of House of Representatives from Nawalparashi, representing the CPN (UML) during the 2056 BS's election.     

He also briefly worked as a Co-Controller in the Tribhuvan University's Examination Control Office. (RSS)
