National women football team in SAFF Women's Championship to get award after Tihar holidays

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Oct 31: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced to present awards to national women’s football team, which stood the first runner-up in the SAFF Women’s Championship 2024, just after Tihar holidays.

At a meeting with the players of the national team of women footballers at his official residence at Baluwatar, today, PM Oli made it also clear that the government was attentive to development of sports sector and incentives to the players.

Every member in the national women's football team in the match of the Championship will get a sum of Rs. 300 thousand as the award for scoring second position in the final match.

Meanwhile, RSS adds: He said the national women's football team winning the silver medal in the Championship concluded on Wednesday will be given the cash prize shortly after the Tihar festival. The government has announced to award the team members with Rs 300,000 each. 

Despite an outstanding performance, the Nepali team lost the final match to Bangladesh due to technical errors, the Prime Minister said, urging the players to dream of the first position in the seventh Championship and practice accordingly. 

"Let's not grieve over the loss. Tenzing Norgay scaled Mt Everest in his eighth attempt. Our efforts be for a final victory," he said at a programme here today. 

On the occasion, he said the government is searching for a suitable area to build a stadium with the capacity of accommodating 50,000 people.   

The government has lately withdrawn the taxation on prize amounts. 

Minister for Youth and Sports, Tejulal Chaudhary, Kathmandu metropolis deputy mayor Sunita Dangol and All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) President Pankaj Bikram Nembang among others were present on the occasion.
