Municipality provides flowers to local residents at subsidized rate

Nuwakot, Oct 31: The Bidur Municipality has grown flowers on its own and sold it to the local community at a subsidized rate.

Mayor of Bidur Municipality, Rajan Shrestha, said the local people were availed with the flowers at a low cost after the flower farming, the first of its kind initiated as a model.

He said that marigold and Makhamali (globe amaranth) flower planted in nine ropani of land plots at Majhitar in ward no. 5 and Colony at ward no. 9 is being sold to the local community on the occasion of Tihar festival.

"Arrangements have been made to sell the flowers until the day of Bhaitika (November 3)," Mayor Shrestha said.

As shared by the municipality, Makhamali is being sold at Rs 350 per kilogram and marigold at Rs 200 per kilogram.  

The Agriculture Section Chief of Municipality, Madan Raj Neupane, said they have received a huge demand for flower as the price of the flowers there is comparatively lower than in the market.  

Presently, Makhamali is being sold at Rs 400 per kilogram and marigold at Rs 250 per kilogram.  

The demand for the flowers there is high as the municipality has banned the import of plastic-made garlands. (RSS)
