blog

By Our Correspondent,Bardibas, Oct. 29: Health issues have been identified in 27 drivers of the long-distance passenger buses operating along the Bardibas road.

According to health workers conducting the check-up, many drivers are diagnosed with hypertension and eye problems.

These issues were discovered during a one-day free health camp organised by the District Traffic Police Office, Mahottari, as part of efforts to reduce road accidents.

The camp, part of the ‘Healthy Driver, Safe Driving’ campaign, focused on the health of drivers and co-drivers of passenger vehicles travelling through Bardibas on routes from Jhapa to Mahendranagar, Kanchalanpur.

In collaboration with Shubha Swastik Hospital in Bardibas, traffic police conducted health examinations on 238 drivers and co-drivers near the East-West Highway, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm on Sunday.

Medical reports from the District Traffic Office Bardibas indicated that 14 drivers had hypertension, while 13 had eye issues.

District Traffic Chief Laxmiiraj Joshi explained that poor driver health is a contributing factor to accidents so the health camp was organised.

Drivers diagnosed with hypertension or vision problems were advised to seek immediate treatment.

Chief Joshi remarked, “This campaign aims to raise health awareness among drivers and contribute to reducing traffic accidents.”

While the campaign targeted drivers and co-drivers, willing passengers also received health services.
