Digital sector, a priority for govt: DPM Paudel

Kathmandu, Oct 16: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Paudel has said that the government is for expanding the digital sector with a priority.     

At a function organized here today on digital collaboration between Nepal Republic Media Limited and New York Times, he said that digital economy has led to employment generation, productivity enhancement and increased export.     

Deputy Prime Minister Paudel expressed his belief that the partnership between Nepal Republic Media and New York Times for digital collaboration will add a new dimension to Nepal's digital media scenario. He also pointed out the need to pay attention to quality journalism along with the numerical growth of digital news portal.     

He said that the government has adopted a policy of making necessary provisions to make the mass media healthy, clean, fair, dignified, responsible and professional.     

Nepal Republic Media Limited and New York Times have officially collaborated on Digital Paywall, according to which the subscribers of Republic Media can get full access to the digital content of the New York Times as a digital subscriber by paying a certain fee.     

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador of the United States of America to Nepal, Dean R. Thompson, expressed his belief that the collaboration between these two publications will further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.     

Likewise, the Chief Executive Officer of Republic Media, Samriddhi Gyawali, said that this collaboration will help the local media that depend on advertising to find new sources of income. (RSS)
