Proposed chief justice Raut's hearing underway

Kathmandu, Oct 2: The hearing of Supreme Court's proposed chief justice Prakashman Singh Raut by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee, is underway.

Raut's hearing has started in committee's office at Singh Dubar. The meeting held on August 16 of the Constitutional Council had decided to recommend Raut as the future Chief Justice.     

The tenure of the current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, is coming to an end on October 5.     

There is a constitutional provision to appoint the Chief Justice after being heard and approved by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee of the Federal Parliament. (RSS)
