Flooding affects 16 hydro projects, electricity generation disrupted

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Sept 29: Electricity generation in 16 hydropower projects halted after heavy flooding hit them. 

According to Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN), flooding damaged powerhouses, transmission lines and other infrastructures of hydro projects. 

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Limited, Mohan Prasad Gautum, informed that four including security personnel and workers are missing as flooding hit hydropower control room. 

The electricity is getting imported from Tamakoshi-V, as electricity generation halted in 456 mw Upper Tamakoshi. 

According to the Nepal Electricity Authority, there is obstruction of 980 MW (Mega Watt) hour electricity supply across the country as many hydel projects were damaged due to flooding.
