Water level in Bagmati River crosses danger level, high alertness urged

Kathmandu, Sept 27: The Bagmati River in Kathmandu has crossed the danger level due to heavy rainfall.     

The Flood Monitoring Hydrological Forecast Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology issuing a notice cautioned that the water level in the River has risen alarmingly higher than the danger level.     

The Khokana water measuring station showed that the water level in the Bagmati River has surpassed danger threshold which is at 4 meters.     

The water level is reaching around 5 metres, said the Division.     

The Division has urged caution for those residing in riverside area and those travelling via the river basin area considering the rising water level in the river.     

Similarly, the rivers and streams across the country are also swelling and reaching the caution level.     

Water level in the Pasaha River in Bara district and Maheshpur water measuring station has crossed the alert level while the river continues swelling due to incessant rainfall.     

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, water level has reached warning level in various 32 water measuring stations across the country.     

The Authority, issuing a notice on Friday itself, requested the locals in the lower area of the Kulekhani damn area to observe precaution and keep safe due to the risk of dam becoming full and it may have to be opened.     

Authority's Spokesperson Dr Dijan Bhattarai appealed to remain vigilant in the areas below the Kulekhani damn and in riverside area upto Rautahat and Sarlahi district area.(RSS)
