Goats trading starts approaching Dashain

blog

By Our Correspondent,Sarlahi, Sept. 22: As Dashain festival approaches, buying and selling of goats has started in the market. Farmers have started selling goats by bringing them to the market from villages to meet the expenses of the festival.

In Sarlahi, buying and selling of goats has started in Lalbandi, Hariwon, Bayalwas and Barhathwa markets targeting Dashain.

Kiran Sah, a trader at Lalbandi market, said that farmers have already started bringing goats to the market for Dashain. According to him, local traders themselves have started reaching the villages in search of goats.

Some traders go to the village and fix the price of goats and pay in advance to the famers and return. And they have a plan to bring these goats to the market after the beginning of Dashain festival.

Traders said that those who bought goats a few weeks before Dashain have already started coming to the market.

Due to the economic recession, farmers had a problem in selling the goats last year. Many farmers had to sell goats at a cheap price as there was no other way to meet their Dashain expenses.

Bhim Bahadur Karki of Lalbandi Municipality-16, Parwanipur, who came to Lalbandi Goat Bazaar on Thursday, said that the price of goats was very cheap this year as well.

"I came to the market to monitor the price of goats as I have to sell three goats for this year's Dashain. But, the price of goats is very low even this year," he said.

He complained that there is a situation that the goats weighing 25 kgs are not sold even for Rs. 20,000.

Karki said that other farmers like him who came to sell goats in the market were also disappointed because of the price.

In Sarlahi, especially from Chure region, a large amount of goats is entering the market.
