Mohammad Day marked by taking out procession along with Hindu leaders

By Siraj Khan,Nepalgunj, Sept. 17: The 1499th birth anniversary of Hazrat Mohammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, the last promoter of Islam, was celebrated in Banke, Monday.  

On the occasion, a big rally was organised in Nepalgunj. A large number of followers of Islam and Hindu leaders took part in the procession. 

Several vehicles, rickshaws, tractors and motorcycles as well as pedestrians took part in the rally.  

A large number of people from Nepalgunj and surrounding areas participated in the rally carrying placards and banners with various slogans. 

Sweets, fruits, water, juice, tea and other food items were distributed at various junctions and other places in the city. 

Former ministers Mohammad Ishtiaq Rai, Abdul Khan, Hasina Khan, Constituent Assembly member Abdul Hamid Siddiqui, and former and current members of the House of Representatives and State Assemblies were present at the rally.

Prashant Bista, Mayor of Nepalgunj, Kamaruddin Rai, Deputy Mayor, heads of various parties, Muslim religious leaders and children and youth participated in the procession. 

The procession went around the main parts of Nepalgunj and after walking for about six hours, it culminated in an assembly at the local Gausiya Madrasa before the ceremony ended. 

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Muslim leaders and religious leaders highlighted the message and biography of Hazrat Mohammad. They emphasised the message of harmony, peace and brotherhood propounded by Mohammad. 

Muslim leaders had demanded a public holiday for all communities on Mohammad Day. They expressed their unhappiness over the government's decision to give a public holiday only to the Muslim community. 

Muslim religious priest cleric Maulana Abdul Jabbar Manjari thanked the Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan for giving a public holiday in the city for the first time. 

Similarly, Narainapur Rural Municipality and Janaki Rural Municipality of Banke also declared a public holiday on Monday on the occasion of Mohammad Day. 

The Muslims of all three municipalities of Banke thanked the local governments for declaring a holiday.

Nepalgunj city was decorated like a bride two days ago for Mohammad Day.
