Sudurpashchim’s losing streak continues

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 17: Sudurpashchim Province was one of the three teams alongside Koshi and Karnali to top the qualifiers in Surkhet and enter into the ANFA Women’s League 2080. However, the far-western province has struggled in the League; its losing streak has reached five in five matches.

On Monday, Sudurpashchim played its fifth match of the League against Waling Municipality. Waling defeated Sudurpashchim 5-1 in the final game of Round 5 at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato, Lalitpur.

Four of the goals against Sudurpashchim were scored by the foreign players of Waling, including a hattrick by Viola Namuddu. Namuddu completed her hattrick within the first half. Opening the goal account for herself and the team in the 18th minute, Namuddu scored the next two goals in the gap of three minutes (42nd and 45th) before the first half’s regulation time. And in the second minute of the four-minute additional time of the first half, Jackline Nassali made it 4-0.

The majority of the goals conceded by Sudurpashchim were due to poor defence. Sushma Tamang’s goal in the 50th minute took Waling to 5-0 with 40 minutes in hand.

However, Sudurpashchim kept their cool and continued playing football as best as they could. It was fruitful for the losing side as they did not concede any more after 5. Moreover, they denied Waling a clean sheet.

Ritika Karki scored the only goal for Sudurpashchim in the 62nd minute.

Sudur’s chance ends

Sudurpashchim conceded 37 goals and replied with only three in five matches. They were Bagmati Youth Club, Nepal Police Club, Tribhuvan Army FC and Chandrapur Municipality who handed over Sudurpashchim four losses before Waling made it five.

Sudurpashchim now has four matches with Karnali, Sankata FC, defending champion APF FC and Koshi. And even if Sudurpashchim could win all four matches, they have no chance of progressing to the second stage of the League planned after the 10th National Games.

Except for the three departmental clubs, the favourites to qualify for the final stage of the league to be played in a double-round robin format between the top five teams are Koshi (4th positioned with 10 points) and Waling (5th positioned with 9 points). Chandrapur (6th position with 6 points) are also trying to find a way into the Top 5.

Out of the nine rounds, the 6th Round of the League starts on Tuesday with two games: Sankata vs APF and Koshi vs Army.
