Kathmandu, Sept 12: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has expressed serious concern over the attempt of police to arrest President of Press Chautari Nepal, Ganesh Basnet, taking over a news report.
Issuing a press statement here today, FNJ general secretary Roshan Puri, states that the cyber bureau of Nepal Police tried to forcibly arrest Basnet, as he participating in a discussion program held at a hotel in Kathmandu.
The press council of Nepal is responsible for investigating the complaints concerning news but the police tried to arrest the journalist Basnet by interfering with the jurisdiction of the council. "The federation strongly condemns this intervention of the police and draws the attention of the concerned sides to respect the freedom of the press", adds the statement.(RSS)
