Kathmandu, Aug 22: Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Arzu Rana Deuba, has emphasized the urgent need for climate protection and environmental conservation to ensure Nepal's secure future.

Speaking to the media after inaugurating a tree plantation programme at Kansi Bhanjyang in Banepa municipality-3 on Friday, the Minister expressed her concern over the consequences of climate change affecting Nepal.

“Nepal is facing a crisis due to the impacts of climate change. We have raised this issue with the global community, and they now realise that Nepal is not responsible for this crisis,” she said, stressing the need for taking further initiatives to achieve climate justice.

The Minister highlighted that Nepal hosted the Sagarmatha Sambaad a few months ago, utilising the platform to inform the world about the country’s vulnerability to climate change. She also added that she strongly raised the issue in the International Court of Justice.

The Minister further committed to advocating for climate justice for Nepal through mechanisms such as 'Carbon Trade and the Loss and Damage Fund'.

The programme was organized by Ullens Education Foundation in collaboration with Banepa municipality in Kavrepalanchok.(RSS)
