Govt planning to make secondary education compulsory: Minister Bhattarai

Kathmandu, Aug 25: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Bidhya Bhattarai said that the incumbent government was mooting plans to make secondary level education compulsory and free.     

Addressing the meeting of the National Education Day-2081 Main Organizing Committee here Sunday, Minister Bhattarai pledged effective implementation of the education related acts and laws for the successful enforcement of the aforesaid provision.     

Ensuring timely amendment of the relevant education laws, she mentioned that the Committee would urge the provincial governments and relevant agencies to celebrate the week-long National Education Day in a grand manner.     

The Minister also requested the 130-members Main Organizing Committee to devise week-long celebratory programmes to mark at all local levels.     

The meeting was convened to discuss celebratory programmes and activities with the relevant ministries and agencies as well as to form sub-committees in preparation for the National Education Day. The meeting also dwelt on suitable slogan for this year's National Education Day that is celebrated annually on second day of Asoj month.     

It was shared that letters were sent to the concerned agencies inviting applications and recommendations for various decorations and awards to be given to outstanding students on the occasion.(RSS)
