President Paudel receives 'Raksha Bandhan'

Kathmandu, Aug 19: President Ramchandra Paudel received the Nawayagyopavit Janai and Rakshabandhan as per the Vedic rituals on the occasion of the Rakshabandhan and Janai Purnima festival today.     

The Nawayagyopavit or janai is a consecrated thread that is worn around the torso by Hindu men who have undergone the coming-of-age rites while the Rakshabandhan is the sanctified thread worn around the wrist as a mark of protection from harm.     

President Poudel received the 'Yagyopavit' and 'Raksha Bandhan' from priest Arjun Neupane at the auspicious time in accordance with Vedic rituals. First Lady Sabita Paudel also received the 'Raksha Bandhan' from Neupane on the occasion, according to the Office of the President.     

The President's close relatives also received the 'Raksha Bandhan' at the President's House, Shital Niwas. (RSS)
