Govt. active in rescuing Nepali workers held captive in India

Kathmandu, Aug 14: The government has speeded up the rescue, repatriation and family reunification of Nepali workers held hostage in India. 

The Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens has accelerated the rescue of Nepalis who were held captive and forced to work in the conflict-affected areas without wages. They were reportedly taken there with the promise of attractive wages and employment in road construction works and so on.

Dinesh Bhattarai, Secretary of the Ministry, informed that the seven men from Dhanusha district and 21 men from Siraha (aged 24 to 60 years old) who were taken hostage recently have been rescued with the help of the Indian non-governmental organization 'Kin India' and brought to Nepal. 

Under the initiative and leadership of the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens and in coordination with the Nepali Embassy in India and with the technical support and cooperation of 'Why India', the victims were rescued and brought to Janakpur.

The Ministry said that the rescue and protection of the victims of human trafficking has always been a top priority. 

The 28 people who were brought to Dhanusha have been reunited with their families through the Human Trafficking Control, District Committee in the presence of the Minister of Women, Children and Senior Citizens Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi, Secretary of the Ministry Bhattarai and Joint Secretary Abha Shrestha Karna, according to the Ministry.
