Lawmakers emphasize on parenting education

Kathmandu, July 25: Lawmakers in today's meeting of the Women, Children and Social Affairs Committee under the House of Representatives have laid emphasis on parenting education.     

During the discussion about the role playing by UNESCO on educational development of children in Nepal, lawmaker Roshan Karki stressed on parenting education.     

Similarly, Shanti Shrestha mentioned that UNESCO has been playing notable role in education sector of Nepal, pointing out the need of informal education to guardians and teachers.     

Sita Kumari Rana expressed the view of investing on children while Chief of UNESCO Education Department, Dhurba Raj Regmi, shared that UNESCO has been playing leading role in education sector.     

Regmi mentioned that although the government has prioritized informal education sector, informal sector has not been incorporated, adding it was necessary to revise the curriculum.     

He further said the UNSCO had brought a concept of greening education and activities were underway how to incorporate the issue of climate change in curriculum.     

Likewise, UNESCO Communications and Information Officer, Nirjana Sharma, revealed the fact that most of the students were connected on online education during COVID-19 pandemic, its negative impact has started developing now.     

Though online became the medium of learning during COVID, many children specially girls have been facing misbehave through online for not being able to identify right and wrong, which is increasing mental health problem, she opined.     

Sharma added that the UNESCO has put the issue of lessening online violence on its priority.(RSS)
