By Lalit Basel, Surkhet, July 22: The CPN (Maoist Centre) has quit the government of the Karnali province less than three months after assuming power.

In the UML Yam Lal Kandel-led provincial government that was formed on April 30, 2024, four ministers of the Maoist Centre had participated but just after 79 days, they resigned from their posts.

Mahendra KC was sitting as Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning, Durga Bahadur Raut as the Minister for Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment, Ransingh Pariyar as Minister of Water Resources and Energy Development, and Bir Bahadur Shahi as the Minister for Social Development of the government of the Karnali Province.

All four ministers announced through a joint press conference held on Monday that they had withdrawn their support to the government and called it quits on the incumbent government.

KC said that they formed a government with UML as there was an alliance between two parties however with the change in political scenario, we are withdrawing our support to the government of Karnali Province.

He claimed that despite having few months of tenure, they were able to make remarkable changes especially while making the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2081/82.

With this, the major alliance of the incumbent government, the Nepali Congress, will enter the government formation. Chief Minister Kandel needs to take a vote of confidence within a month.
