Efforts on for legal reform: Minister Sharma

Kathmandu, July 5: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, has said government was at work to make the laws that suit time and ensure quality delivery.     

During the deliberation on appropriation bill, 2081 in the National Assembly meeting today, Minister Sharma, on behalf of the Prime Minister, informed the parliament that government had continued reform in law.     

The laws made initially to enforce the fundamental rights were being implemented now, she added. Contextual reform in law is a continuous process.     

"People's representatives are responsible for bringing new laws and revising the old ones. A total of 195 laws were aligned with constitution, while some 239 laws are amended," Minister Sharma made the lawmakers aware.     

According to her, the legislations were being made by making clear difference on exclusive and concurrent rights of the federal, provincial and local governments.     

A committee was formed under the chairmanship of former Chief Justice Om Prakash Mishra to furnish recommendations on the appointment of related officials to conclude transitional justice. The bill relating to transitional justice was being studied in the law and human rights committee under the parliament, the Minister shared.     

It was also shared in the meeting that Rs one billion was managed to set up a peace trust. (RSS)
