National conference on painting begins in Bhedetar

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 2: The ‘Contemporary Painting National Conference’ has begun in Bhedetar, Dhankuta, under the coordination of the Ministry of Social Development of Koshi Province, in collaboration with the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA).

Social Development Minister of Koshi Province, Pancha Karna Rai, inaugurated the programme on Monday.

According to a press statement issued by NAFA, Minister Rai mentioned that despite being a politician, he was drawn to fine arts. He emphasised the need to identify and work on traditional and folk art, expressing his commitment to supporting the advancement of fine arts in the future. 

During the programme, Naradamani Hartamchhali, the Chancellor of the Academy, said that the Academy is dedicated to the holistic development of art. He also discussed upcoming Academy’s programmes and highlighted the role of art in fostering a cultured society.

 Jiten Rumdali Rai, Chairman of Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality, praised the programme’s impact on the municipality and pledged to collaborate with the Academy on.

Sanjay Wantawa Rai, head of the NAFA’s Contemporary Painting Department, highlighted the programme’s significance and addressed the evolution of contemporary painting in Nepal. 

Local organisation leaders expressed their delight that the programme took place in a tourist destination and wished it success.

Members of the NAFA academic council including Sangi Shrestha, Azmat Ali, and artists such as Saroja Khadgi, Yuvraj Rijal, Chiten Sherpa, Mahendra Rai, Anuradha Thapa, Sabin Upadhyay, Ganesh Lama, Dilli Ale, Jiten Rai, Pranod Dutt, Mukund Prayas, Mukesh Shrestha, Rajan Pant, Kiran Sigu, Krishna Lama, Uddhav Rimal and Rakesh Chandra Shrestha, along with heads of various local organisations, party representatives, intellectuals, and others, participated in the event.
