Koshi Province to develop film shooting spots

By Our Correspondent,Birtamod, May 21: The Chief Minister of Koshi Province, Hikmat Kumar Karki, has said that the Provincial government aims to transform the main tourist and scenic spots of Koshi Province into appealing locations for the shooting of Nepali and Indian films.

 Speaking at the inaugural session of the Koshi Film Festival, organised by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law of Koshi Province in Birtamod, Jhapa, Chief Minister Karki highlighted the province’s leadership in art, literature, culture, and tourism, and its potential to attract film productions.

Karki also committed to establishing a provincial film development board to promote the film industry, with necessary budget allocations planned for the next fiscal year.

 “We are preparing to form a provincial film board next year,” said Karki.

Ramesh Tiwari, General Secretary of the Koshi Province Committee of Filmmakers Union, added that the Koshi Film Festival will continue till May 24. 

The festival will feature various films, discussions and interactive sessions.

Original films in the languages and dialects of the province will be screened in cities like Birtamod, Biratnagar and Itahari, informed in the programme.
