Sketching and Sculpture programme conducted by KMC and NAFA concludes

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 13: An exhibition of artworks created by students in a training programme of the ‘Sketching and Sculpture’ module under the ‘Shikshama Sip’  concluded on Sunday.   The programme was conducted in 19 groups of nine schools under the Kathmandu Metropolitan City in collaboration with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Education Department and the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA).

KMC Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol was the chief guest of the conclusion programme.

She said that art could be taken as a career and hobby.

“This programme has given the message that students should start with whatever ability they have. It has also become a platform for one student to learn from another. I am more excited to see what this programme will be like next time. It has given a good message. I thank you  everyone on behalf of the metropolis,” said Dangol.

She expressed her belief that the metropolis would cooperate with the academy in various works related to art in the future.

 Devendra Kumar Kafle ‘Thumkeli’, member secretary of the academy, said that the programme gave him great encouragement. He opined that art is important because it affects all areas.

“We have collaborated with Kathmandu Metropolitan City in various programmes and will continue to do so in future. Now, with the ‘Sketching and Sculpture'’ programme under the ‘Shikshama Sip’  Programme, the perspective of schools and students in art has changed.  In the closing ceremony, the trainers and co-trainers who participated in the training were given certificates of appreciation and the best students were also awarded. 

Viswa Niketan Secondary School, Ratna Rajya Secondary School, Gyanodaya Secondary School, Tarun Secondary School, Geetamata Secondary School, Kanya Mandir Secondary School, Shaheed Shukra Secondary School, Padmakanya Bidyashram Secondary School and Koteshwar Saraswoti School participated in the programme that began from May 11 last year. 

A total of 1, 200 paintings and sculptures were created by the students during the programme, informed in the programme.

 The programme was coordinated by Saurganga Darshandhari, Head of the Department of Architecture and other creative arts. 

 Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah also observed the exhibition.
