BY A STAFF REPORTER,Kathmandu, May 3: Music enthusiasts gathered at Chaimali Resort in Dakshinkali Municipality recently for a captivating live concert by the legendary singer Juju Kaji Ranjit to celebrate the publication of 400 issues of the fortnightly magazine ‘Page 3’.
Born on October 2, 1955, to father Ratna Man Ranjit and mother Chandra Kumari Ranjit, Singer Ranjit started exploring music as a medium to spread messages while participating in the language movement in 1965 when he was 10 years old. With a career spanning six decades, he has left an indelible mark on the music industry lending his voice to 44 songs, including those featured in the country’s first indigenous movie ‘Silu’ and has been recognised through numerous awards.
The concert organised by the Page3 on Tuesday night kicked off with Ranjit’s classic hit ‘Banla Mayju Banla’ along with ‘Chanta Ji Dhathen Yagu Kha Sa’ and others. The concert which celebrated Singer Ranjit’s illustrious career and enduring impact on the Nepal Bhasa music also featured Singer Ratna Shova Maharjan and the 7 wonders Band.
At the event, Bagmati Provincial Minister for Culture, Tourism and Cooperatives Shailendra Man Bajracharya, said that they were working towards the implementation of the ‘Provincial Official Language Act-2023’. Stating that the act ensures two indigenous languages; Nepal Bhasa and Tamang, as the official language of the province, he said that such political steps would give recognition to the indigenous community and help preserve their culture.
Similarly, Dakshinkali Municipality Mayor lauded Singer Ranjit and said that Newa culture is the heart of the nation and should be promoted and preserved. Recognising Ranjit’s immeasurable contribution to the Nepal Bhasa music industry, he pointed the importance of acknowledging and appreciating such efforts. He also urged the people to teach their mother tongue and culture to younger generation to preserve their identity.
On the occasion, the Page 3 Fortnightly launched its special edition paying tribute to Singer Ranjit. Additionally, Singer Ranjit was honoured with honourary letters and a cash pouch of Rs. 15,000.
