Janakpurdham, Jan 17: The Madhesh Province government has observed the 'Madhes Dignity Day' for the first time on the occasion of the day Madhesh Province got its capital and name based on identity.
A special programme was organized by the Home Affairs, Communications and Law Ministry at Mahendra Narayan Nidhi Memorial Culture Centre on Wednesday.
The speakers at the programme said it was a matter of dignity and pride that only Madhes was able to name its province based on identity.
President of the Janata Samajbadi Party, Upendra Yadav, reminded that the province was named based on identity as per recommendation of political parties and high level state restructuring commission. It was a matter of pride for all, he said, arguing that time had come to fight for equal rights, equal opportunities and justice. "We've been able to name province and its capital based on identity. The federalism has also the bases on sacrifices in Madhes.
On the occasion, Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav said the federalism and identity have well reflected spirit of Madhes Province. However, it was worrying that federalism and province governments were being weakened, he viewed.
Former chief minister of Madhes Province government, Lal Babu Raut, reminded that his party had taken together all parties and been able to name the province as Madhes Province.
Leaders from various parties, including Nepali Congress, CPN (Unified Socialist) addressed the programme.
The Madhes province and its capital 'Janakpurdham' were named on Magh 3, 2078BS.(RSS)
