By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 8: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said that its serious attention was drawn to the incident involving the death of Jaishankar Sah during a protest after argument over the issue of upgrading a health centre in Barahathawa, Sarlahi.
Issuing a press statement on Sunday, NHRC spokesperson Dr. Tikaram Pokharel informed that the Madhes Province Office of the NHRC was monitoring the incident.
During a preliminary monitoring by the NHRC, it was found that Sah, 30, was killed in a dispute regarding the issue of upgrading the health centre.
Police personnel and locals were also injured, prompting the family of the deceased and the public to continue demonstrations demanding justice and the local administration to issue curfew frequently. Sah’s body was still at the incident site.
The Commission has received information that the government has formed a committee to probe the incident.
The NHRC also urged the federal, province and local governments to investigate the incident impartially and independently and bring the culprit of the incident under the purview of legal action, to arrange for proper relief and compensation to the family of the deceased, free treatment of the injured, and not to repeat such kinds of incidents.
In addition, the Commission also requested the agitating parties to find a solution to the problem through dialogue.
