Free eye camp in Halesi Tuwachung

By Our Correspondent,Khotang, Dec. 25: In a three-day free eye camp organised in Halesi Tuwachung Municipality of Khotang district, 91 individuals have successfully undergone surgeries.

Locals who had cataracts went through operation at the Eye and Ear Treatment Centre in Halesi Bazaar from Thursday to Saturday and the eyelids of patients who underwent surgery were opened on Sunday. 

Surendra Shrestha, head of Eye and Ear Treatment Centre, Halesi, said that 64 people underwent cataract surgery, while 27 others had a minor operation to remove growing flesh from their eyes and molluscum contagiosum. Likewise, 590 people have received free services in the three-day camp,” added Shrestha.

“Free medicines were distributed to more than 400 people and spectacles were distributed to more than 150 people. Black spectacles were provided free of cost to 91 individuals who underwent surgery,” said Shrestha.

People from Okhaldhunga, along with other municipalities including Rawa Besi Rural Municipality, Diktel Rupakot Mazhuwagadhi Municipality, Diprung Chuichumma Rural Municipality, Sokala Rural Municipality and other nearby municipalities came to Halesi for eye check-up. 

The free eye camp was organised by Halesi Tuwachung Municipality, Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh Khotang, Eye and Ear Treatment Centre, Halesi and Eye Treatment Centre Support Committee with the technical assistance of Sagarmatha Chaudhary Eye Hospital of Lahan.

The camp was formally inaugurated by Bimala Rai, Deputy Mayor of Halesi Tuwachung Municipality. Speaking at the inauguration programme Rai said that the municipality was conducting various programmes along with the eye camp for the treatment of the citizens. This was the second year in a row, the eye camp was organised in Halesi.
