blog

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 18: The play 'Bodhi-Sattwa', presented by the Bajra Kala Kunj, is currently being staged at the Kaushi Theatre at Teku, Kathmandu.

In the play, being performed since December 6, posits that people will do good and bad things for their pleasures and desires.

Individuals may also be able to acquire much wealth through questionable actions. But the drama presents the conclusion that the real imperishable wealth in life is the attaining of Bodhi-Sattwa.

Bodhi is the knowledge within self and the recognition of the world outside. Sattwa means the essence of everything. Any being that recognises the knowledge they hold within themselves attains Bodhi Sattwa.

We can all walk the Bodhi path. To follow the path of Bodhi does not mean that one has to practice penance, become a monk and leave everything. We need only wish good on someone and perform good acts, the play tries to show.

One of the main characters of the play is Ahim, who is dedicated to the path of truth. But he is forced to accept violence in the name of Guru Dakshina because he considers his Guru supreme.

Ahim, who even felt the pain of animals and birds, was a Bodhi Sattwa. But when he could not disrespect his master's request and thus, he resorted to violence.

This play tries to stress that we should not do bad things just because of seniors ask; we need not obey those we otherwise respect if they ask us to follow the wrong path.

Artistes Sudan Man Munikar, Sangita Thapa, Nanu Maiya Maharjan, Yuvahang Rai, Srijana Sharma, Anju Shrestha, Anisha Shrestha, Ajay Lama, Santosh Giri, Navin Kafle and Aakash Nepali portray various characters in the drama.

With the support of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City and through the collaboration between Bajra Kala Kunj and Mamaa Arts, 'Bodhi-Sattwa' is performed every evening at 5 pm. It will be staged till Wednesday.
