Kathmandu, Dec 15: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has honoured and awarded various persons for their remarkable contribution in different sectors.
At a special programme organised at the Sainik Manch today on the occasion of its 29th Kathmandu Metropolitan Day, it honoured social workers, artists, athletes, engineers, litterateurs, among others.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' honoured senior ophthalmologist Dr Sanduk Ruit, actress Manisha Koirala, litterateur Durga Lal Shrestha, Olympian Baikuntha Manandhar and structural engineer Manohar Lal Rajbhnadari.
Similarly, Additional Inspector General of Nepal Police, Mira Chaudhary, former captain and footballer Bal Gopal Maharjan, former captain of Nepali National Cricket, Paras Khadka, Karate player Arika Gurung, Captain of Women's Basketball Tean, Sabina Shrestha, and Karate coach Kedareshwor Sthapit were also awarded. The award carries a purse of Rs 150,000 each.
KMC Mayor Balen Shah shared that seeking the long-term solution of problems related to compensation of Tinkune land, rivulet encroachment and garbage management is still remaining.
Similarly, Deputy-Mayor Sunita Dangol mentioned that the KMC has been moving ahead with a concept that public property should be used only for public welfare.
The KMC has launched free legal service for easy access to every service seeker to maintain judicial governance in the KMC, she added. (RSS)
