By Sher Bahadur Rai, Okhaldhunga, Dec. 5: Nepali Congress (NC)
president and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has viewed that the
country can be developed easily if federalism is operated efficiently.
Leader Deuba said so while inaugurating the first district convention of
the party and the party office in the district.
"The nation has already stepped into the democratic republic," he
said, "This system will bring changes in the living conditions of the people."
The former Prime Minister said that the present polity has increased ownership
of the indigenous people, Madhesis, women, Dalit and other marginalized people and that it should be further strengthened.
Speaking on the occasion, Shekhar Koirala, NC leader, pointed at the
need for increasing employment by developing the agriculture sector as unemployment
was rising in the country.
He also said that the NC would raise issues pertinent to NCell
transactions in the parliament.
General Secretary of the NC, Gagan Thapa, pledged that the NC would
safeguard the present democratic republican system with federalism.
He highlighted that the NC should play an important role in curbing
corruption in the country.
He viewed that steps should be taken to improve the NC as the party
will be heading the federal government soon as per the agreement of the ruling coalition.
