By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Nov 24: Britain and Nepal NGO Network (BRANNGO), established in 2018 with the objective of strengthening cooperation between the civil society of the UK and the civil society of Nepal, has held its first conference in Kathmandu.

NGO representatives of the UK and Nepal participated in the conference.

Addressing the conference held recently, the Ambassador of the UK to Nepal, Rob Fenn, said that Nepal and the UK could build an amazing partnership by respecting each other.

He further said that the BRANNGO’s role is appreciable for linking the civil society of the UK and the civil society of Nepal. The UK has been supporting Nepal for a long period for the promotion of democracy and human rights, and it is still committed to it, he said.

Nick Hinton, chairman of the BRANNGO, said most people in the UK have a huge enthusiasm and interest in supporting the people of Nepal because many of them know Nepal as the two countries established relations centuries ago.

Hinton said the BRANNGO was established for collaboration, coordination and communication between different civil society organisations of the two nations.

Alan Sweetman, member of BRANNGO and executive director of Pahar Trust Nepal, said they were working to see the happiness of Nepali children and their guardians. The Trust has been supporting the people of the underprivileged Nepalese communities in their education.

Sarah Mackaness, coordinator of the education working group at BRANNGO, said they were making efforts to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all as envisaged by SDG.

B.K Shrestha, director of Global Action Nepal, said the organisations led by civil society in Nepal must connect their programmes to income generation to make them sustainable.

Nepal and the United Kingdom have been celebrating 100 years of friendship this year. The UK and Nepal officially signed a historic treaty of friendship in December of 1923.
