By Our Correspondent,Humla, Nov.6: Every child across Humla district was given vitamin A under the national campaign. According to health officials, the campaign concluded successfully in all 44 wards of the seven local levels of the district.
“In six months, we have been able to give vitamin A capsules to 150 children aged below five years, and albendazole, a medicine used to treat infections caused by worms, was provided to all the children aged one to four years old in the local level,” said Gyachho Lama, chief of the health section of Namkha Rural Municipality.
“We had deployed women health workers and volunteers in 21 settlements across the local level. This is the first time we were able to provide vitamin A and albendazole to every child within our vicinity,” said Lama.
Likewise, Tanjakot Rural Municipality’s health section chief Dhanraj Dhakal informed that 900 children were given vitamin A capsules and 800 children were given albendazole from six health centres in the local level.
“While some children used to be left behind in the vitamin A and albendazole campaign earlier, we did not leave any eligible child behind this year,” said Dhakal.
Simkot Rural Municipality informed that it gave vitamin A to 1,500 children and albendazole to 1,000 children. “We reached all the children within our periphery,” said Nar Bhandari, chief of the health section of Simkot.
“Altogether, 7,050 children in seven local levels were given vitamin A and 6,300 children received albendazole. This is the first time in Humla that no children were left behind,” said Prem Bahadur Singh, chief of Humla Health Office.
