Waling Municipal office becomes disabled-friendly

By Radha Krishna Dumre,Syangja, Nov.2: Waling Municipality has begun works as per its plan to make the municipal office fully disabled-friendly. 

The municipal building is old and needs to be modified to make it disabled-friendly.  

Mayor Krishna Khand said that the process of building a  disabled-friendly ramp and tactile has already begun.  

He further said that the office has started using disabled-friendly digital technology and was working to prepare the necessary infrastructure. 

He said, "With the use of digital technology, people with disabilities will be able to get services easily. We have prepared infrastructure for them to use technology easily by hearing and touching.” Mayor Khand said that the municipality would effectively implement disability-friendly and inclusive development programmes.

He said that the policies and programmes and the budget introduced by the municipality would gradually be addressed, and the draft of questions related to disability to be included in the proposed health policy was being developed. 

Ram Sharma Pokharel, president of Syangja Disabled Society said that the municipality has done good work by constructing disability-friendly office buildings. 

He said, "We have a plan to cooperate for disability-friendly activities in all municipalities of the district."

The "Disability Inclusive Development Programme at the Local Level" was launched in Walling Municipality with the support of the National Disabled Federation of Nepal, The Asia Foundation, Syangja Disabled Society and local partner organisations to build disabled-friendly offices.
