By Our Correspondent,Rukum West, Oct. 22: The Aathbiskot Municipality in Rukum West has provided food assistance to the Badi community residing in Ward 9 of the municipality for celebration of the major Hindu festival, Bijaya Dashami.

Mayor Rabi KC of the municipality distributed food to 17 households belonging to the Badi community. KC said the food assistance was given to economically disadvantaged Badi communities to ensure they do not face challenges in purchasing food during the festival season.

"Support is being provided because the festival season leads to a lack of work, making it tough for the Badi community who rely on daily labour to meet their financial needs," he added.

Closure of market makes many families of the community became jobless, said KC.

The Badi community is has no other source of income except manual labour. The community is forced to live in extreme poverty. KC said, “Each household received one bag of rice, two bottles of oil, three kilograms of lentils, and one packet of salt.”

After receiving the food assistance from the municipality, a local resident, Tara Badi, breathed a sigh of relief and expressed her gratitude, citing that the prospect of celebrating Dashain had become more manageable.

The Badi community has conveyed their gratitude to the local government for recognizing the challenges faced by the community, and for extending food assistance to each and every family, thus ensuring a joyous Dashain celebration for all.
