blog

Kathmandu, Oct 16: The central committee of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has announced an indefinite protest programme against the Kantipur Media Group (KMG), commencing on October 17.

Issuing a press statement today, the umbrella organization of the journalists, said the programme aimed to exert pressure on the KMG to promptly address the legitimate concerns of working journalists.

According to the FNJ, the announcement of protest follows the large denial of the latest agreements reached between the Kantipur's management side and journalists' representatives by working journalists.

The FNJ has scheduled a demonstration at the KMG office located in Thapathali from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm tomorrow, and this demonstration will persist until the demands of working journalists are met.

Previously, the FNJ had consistently called for the reinstatement of 82 journalists laid off by KMG's management, the rescission of unauthorized transfers, and the full implementation of the Working Journalists Act, among other demands.

The FNJ's central office has appealed to officials and members from its chapters in the Kathmandu Valley, as well as working journalists, representatives of journalist organizations, and individuals supporting the cause of working journalists to participate in the demonstration. (RSS)
