By Our Correspondent,Humla, Oct. 11: Traffic Police penalised a tipper, a vehicle to carry goods, for carrying passengers in Ward No. 2 of Namkha Rural Municipality in Humla district.

According to Inspector Kalak Bahadur Shahi of the Humla District Traffic Police Office, traffic police officers have started intensifying security checks and inspections along the roads to ensure safe travel during the festival time.

“The number of passengers increase compared to the number of available public vehicles operating in the district during Dashain and Tihar. Vehicles often carry passengers and goods exceeding their capacity increasing the risk of accidents during the festival period,” said Inspector Shahi.

Inspector Shahi informed that the tipper (Ba 5 Kha 326), which is allowed to carry four individuals other than goods, was carrying 27 passengers. “Moreover, a tipper cannot carry people as other public vehicles,” he added.

The Humla District Traffic Police Office has requested locals to not board a packed vehicle or vehicles carrying goods. Similarly, traffic police have requested locals to complain if they are demanded more fare.

Nevertheless, locals informed that there was a lack of enough public transport and the road condition was poor due to which commuting is difficult.

The penalised tipper’s driver Ram Sharan Tamang informed that he was told to carry the passengers by his boss. The passengers boarding the tipper had reserved it at a cost of Rs. 125,000.

The passengers were returning to the Halji Village in Limi, Ward No. 6 of Namkha, from Taklokat. The distance between the two places is 116 kilometres.
