Nepali U19 cricket team aim to win ACC Premier Cup title

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Oct. 10:The captain of the Nepali U19 cricket team, Dev Khanal, stated on Monday that their only goal in the upcoming ACC U19 Premier Cup in Malaysia is to win the title. 

The tournament is scheduled to take place from October 12-24.

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) organized a farewell function in Kathmandu, where Khanal expressed that the team is in high spirits after being selected for the U19 World Cup this year. 

Captain Dev stated that they will do their best to win all the games and that their preparations have been made in India, which will benefit them. 

He added that they hope to return home with the Premier Cup.

The Nepali team has been grouped with Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Iran in Group A. Group B consists of the UAE, Oman, Qatar, and China, and Group C includes Singapore, Kuwait, Thailand, and the Maldives. 

In Group D, we have Hong Kong, Malaysia, Japan, and Indonesia. Teams that finish in the top three positions in the Premier Cup will qualify to play in the U19 Asia Cup.

Jagat Tamata, the coach of the Nepali team, has stated that his team's primary objective is to become champions and secure a spot in the Asia Cup. He added that the players are highly motivated after qualifying for the World Cup, and the goal is now to win the U19 Asia Cup.

CAN Secretary Paras Khadka urged the players to use the international platform to showcase their talent and potentially earn a spot on the senior national team.

Four days ago, under Khanal's captainship, CAN announced a 14-member team for the Premier Cup.

Apart from Khanal, Aakash Tripathi, Arjun Kumal, Dipak Bohra, Deepak Bohra, Uttam Thapa Magar, Dipak Dumre, Dipesh Kandel, Hemant Dhami, Durgesh Gupta, Aakash Chand, Subhas Bhandari, Bishal KC and Milan Bohra are in the team.
