13 climbers scale Dhaulagiri in first summit of season

By Thakur Prasad Acharya,Myagdi, Oct.1: Teenage mountaineer Nima Rinji Sherpa and 12 other climbers from the expedition company Seven Summit Treks (SST) have become the first team to reach atop Mount Dhaulagiri this Autumn season. At 8,167 metres, Dhaulagiri is world's seventh highest mountain.

The 13, which included Seven Summit's chairman Mingma Sherpa, reached the summit on Friday. The SST personnel were opening the summit route that other climbers will now take to make their way to the mountaintop.

According to SST Director Chhang Dawa Sherpa, the climbing team included Pasang Dawa Sherpa, Mingma Sherpa, Tenzing (Lama) Sherpa, Nima Rinji Sherpa, Mingtemba Sherpa, Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, Alina Pekova (Russia), Alasdair Mckenzie (France), Hoeskuldur Tryggvason (Iceland), Moeses Fiamoncini (Brazil), Nangba Sherpa, Mingma Narbu Sherpa and Priped Sherpa. Among them, Nima Rinji is only 17 years old.

Thaneshwor Guragain, manager of SST, said that 20 mountaineers reached the Dhaulagiri base camp from the company and 13 of them made it to the top on Friday. He also said that other climbers and their support staff are on their way to the camp too, he said.
