By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 30:‘Gurkha Warrior’ which depicts the valour of the Gorkhali soldiers is all set for its premiere at the renowned IMAX Cineworld in the UK on September 24.
Milan Chamling Rai popularly known as Milan Chams, the director and producer, shared that meticulous preparations have been made for the premier of his movie.
The film is gaining attention, especially amongst the British Gurkhas.
This film offers a chance to showcase not just Nepali cinema, but also the bravery of the Gurkhas, Chams remarked.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak sent his well wishes for the film’s success in a letter. Although Milan Chams had invited the Prime Minister to the premiere, Sunak regretfully declined due to prior commitments but expressed his appreciation for the film’s theme on the Gurkha soldiers' dedication and sacrifice.
“Many British Gurkhas, especially those associated with the military, are keen to watch. The story showcases the bravery that many foreigners recognise even more than locals do, said Chams.
Chams spoke about fulfilling a long-held dream, recalling a past encounter with a photographer before he became a filmmaker.
His aspiration was to have a grand premiere for a Nepali film, complete with a red carpet for Nepali stars, at a venue where Hollywood giants like Marvel, DC, Universal, and Disney have had their premieres.
Chams revealed that they have extended invitations to British royalty, politicians, army officials, local leaders, celebrities, and many others for the premiere at Leicester Square’s IMAX hall in London.
Gurkha Warrior revolves around the Gurkha soldiers of the British Army and their combat in the Malayan jungles in 1949.
Directed by Himal KC, the film features artists including Ritesh Chams, Vijay Lama, Rebika Gurung, Kabita Ale, Rear Rai, Suraj Tamu, Bhuwan Singh Rai, Trichu Rai, Diggaj Khatri, Saroj Khaling, Arush Jung Saru Magar, Ashish Gurung, Sumin Gurung Sushil Tamang and Krish Gurung.
The film is a collaboration between London Cine Eye Production and Chams Entertainment, with Susmita Waiba and Suman Rai as its producers.
