Barai village's water dream comes true

blog

By Our Correspondent,Humla, Aug. 22: The long-cherished dream of the residents of Barai village in Sarkegad Rural Municipality-6, Humla, has finally come true after years of striving to bring water pipelines into their homes.

Dhana Lal Tamta, a resident of Barai village, expressed that the long-standing aspiration of the Barai community to have access to potable water through household taps has finally been fulfilled.

Previously, the people of the village relied on water from a nearby spring. Given that the entire village depended on a single tap, the residents of Barai had to queue up to access water. And, during the months of April and May, when the spring water dwindled, their water woes worsened.

Tamta, who has set up a personal water supply pipe to his house, stated that the long-standing drinking water problem has been fixed. Not only him, but all the villagers have now managed to bring water to their homes. The locals are thrilled to finally have water running in their houses.

Akal Mahat, the Chief of the Water Supply, Irrigation, and Energy Development Office, said that the water supply project was finished over the course of two fiscal years and is currently operational.

He informed that a total of 113 households in Barai village have been linked to the water supply system. The office has also facilitated free tap installation and connection services.

Mahat said, "The water supply project started in the fiscal year 2021/2022 through local consumers and was completed in the fiscal year 2022/2023. For this, the office has constructed an intake, two Reservoir Break Tanks (RBTs) with capacities of 10 and 20 cubic metres, and water has been sourced by laying a pipeline from a spring located four kilometres away."

He said that a budget of Rs. 1.6 million was allocated over two fiscal years to complete the project, but that the project was completed within a budget of Rs. 1.5 million.
