Lilami highlights issue of youth migration

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 18 :Director and Producer Ramji Gnawali has released his latest short film ‘Lilami’, focusing on the burning issue of youth migration in Nepal. 

This film highlights the growing trend of young Nepalis leaving the country due to political unrest and the severe shortage of job prospects.

The narrative of ‘Lilami’ delves profoundly into the obstacles faced by young Nepalis who find themselves compelled to explore opportunities beyond their country’s boundaries in search of more 

promising future. 

The film examines deeply the ways national instability and limited employment opportunities have driven many young people to pursue a better life overseas. Featuring an ensemble of actors including Mahesh Khadka, Sabina Raut, Deepak Dhakal, Narayan Kandel, Rajesh Bhattarai, Sudin Shrestha, and Shibu Pandey, the film promises a compelling watch.

The film’s story is penned by Pawan Bashyal and it is produced by Jeevan Bhandari while Sankalpa Bhujel is the cinematographer and Nahakul Khadka is the editor of the film.

Having previously directed short films such as ‘Dark Moon’, ‘Ek Lover’, ‘Honeymoon’, and ‘Aaradhya’, and known for working with prominent Nepali celebrities, Gnawali is now setting his aspirations on capturing the hearts of global viewers with his forthcoming docudrama.

Director Gnawali hopes to shed light on aspirations and struggles of Nepali youth while raising awareness about the crucial issue of youth migration. 

“In the hustle of modern life, people often miss out on experiencing the authenticity of today’s meaningful cinema. Our attempt is to showcase narratives that reflect our society, fostering a deeper connection through filmmaking,” said Gnawali.
