By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 15: Nepathya, the folk rock band, rocked Fukuoka, a Japanese city renowned for its ancient temples, scenic beaches, and bustling malls on Sunday night.
Earlier, the band had given their stellar performance in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, on August 9.
The latest data suggests a surge in the Nepali population in Fukuoka, with numbers nearing 10,000, and it was reflected during Nepathay’s show on Sunday.
According to a press release issued by Nepalaya, the largest gathering of Nepalis there peaked at 600 attendees in the past,
The Civic Hall doors swung open at six in the evening, with the concert kicking off an hour later.
The evening commenced with music videos of ‘Sa Karnali’ and ‘Mai Mari Jaula.
The band performed the songs like ‘Koshi ko Pani yo Jindagani’, ‘Bhedako Oon Jasto’, ‘Lampate Surati’, ‘Aanganai Bhari’, ‘Chhekyo Chhekyo’, ‘Chari Maryo’, ‘Jomsome Bazarma’, ‘Sirfula Siraima’ during the concert.
Amrit Gurung, the lead singer, took a moment to reminisce about the musical heritage of Nepali emigrants. He voiced concerns about Nepal’s increasingly vacant society, attributing it to the youth's migration.
Among the attendees, Ajit from Kathmandu, reminisced, “I would travel to Pokhara just for Nepathya's gigs. Now, watching their performance in Fukuoka feels surreal”, read the press statement.
The buzz surrounding the Nepathya concert wasn't confined to the Nepali community, the Japanese also took notice.
Haruhito Nozu, a Nepali language enthusiast, praised Nepathya's enthralling stage presence on Facebook. Even the Japanese Embassy in Nepal acknowledged the band's captivating Japan tour on social media.
Thapa from the organising team proudly said, “The Fukuoka concert was a grand success, drawing fans even from Hiroshima and Nagoya.”
Supporting Amrit were musicians Dhruv Lama on drums, Suraj Thapa on the keyboard, Subin Shakya on the bass guitar, Niraj Gurung on the guitar, and Shanti Rayamajhi on Madal.
Following their success in Fukuoka, the 14-member Nepathya squad headed to Osaka. They will perform in Osaka on August 17.
