Policemen intervening in peaceful sit-in will face action

By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Aug. 8: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha has expressed his grief over the police intervention in the sit-in of Tamang and Magar communities and promised to take action against the guilty policemen.

DPM Shrestha expressed his commitment to seriously investigate the incident and take action against the guilty policemen and provide proper treatment to those injured in the protest.

DPM Shrestha made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation of President of  the Tamang Ghedung and Magar Association at the ministry on Monday afternoon.  The DPM also accepted the memorandum paper submitted by the Association seeking action again the policemen who intervened the peaceful sit-in protest. 

Advocate Bhagwati Pandey, who gave controversial statements about the Tamang and Magar community, was later arrested and was released on the same evening upon the order of the Kathmandu District Court.

They claimed that when the police intervened in the sit-in, more than three dozen people participating in the sit-in were injured.

Tamang Ghedung and Magar Associations have given a memorandum to DPM Shrestha, demanding action against the police officers and those involved, who ordered retaliation, and action against policemen who tortured the participants of the sit-in.
