blog

By Our Correspondent,Charikot, Aug. 7: Sabitri Thami of Bhimeshwar Municipality-1 of Dolakha district is now 32 years old.

She has a family of four, including a 10 years-old daughter, a five-years-old son and a three-day son. She got married at a young age. Now her husband Bharat Thami has been jailed for 15 years, leaving the mother of a three-day baby alone to bring up three kids.  Thami has nothing except for a house, which was built with the grant of the earthquake, and a piece of land in the village called Pahare. Her home can be reached after travelling 13 km of paved road and two km of fair weather road from Charikot, the district headquarters.

The Thami family, which has been making a living by working, is now in dire financial need. Sabitri can do nothing outside. She is confined to her household chores.

Around 4 pm on Saturday, the vehicle stopped close to her house. Both children of Thami started looking at the vehicle. It was raining lightly. Some came out of the vehicle and started walking towards Thami's home. The person who came carrying an umbrella was none other than the mayor of Bhimeshwar Municipality Ishwar Manandhar.

Manandhar reached her house with food and cash to meet Thami, who gave birth to her baby only three days ago.

Mayor Manandhar arrived at her house to meet the newborn with four sacks of rice, 4 kg of pulses, 5 liters of oil, 10 kg of beaten rice, salt and other food items. He also handed over Rs. 5,000 in cash to poor Sabitri.

He said that the municipality had already given Thami Rs. 10,000 in cash.

He said that as soon as he knew that Sabitri Thami had given birth to a baby son, he came to her house with help.

Thami said that since there was no one to earn money at home, she had to work in the morning and evening to manage two meals a day. She said that she was not in a position to work.

She said, 'Our family is in a lot of trouble. "I can't do anything, there is no food at home, my children are young, how to live?"

When her son asked her how their home looked like a shop with sacks of rice and other goods, the poor woman only shed tears.
