Eye centre comes into operation in Malu

By Our Correspondent,Charikot, Aug. 3: An eye centre has come into operation in Malu, a rural village in Ward No. 4 of Tamakoshi Rural Municipality of Dolakha district, from Tuesday.

Tamakoshi Rural Municipality chairman Pratap KC and Deputy chairperson Sirjana Subedi jointly inaugurated the eye centre.

The physical infrastructure was constructed by the rural municipality after an agreement was reached between the local level and the Tilganga Institute of Opthalmology regarding the centre's operation.

Lions Club of Dolakha also assisted the construction of the centre. The rural municipality informed that the centre currently has an ophthalmic assistant and an office helper. 

"Eye care requires a separate expertise and the operation of this centre will ensure that people in the rural areas get access to proper eye treatment," said KC.

According to KC, the health sector was Tamakoshi's priority.

"The personnel in the eye treatment centre in Malu will be reaching all the wards and schools to diagnose diseases and provide treatment.

On the occasion of the centre's inauguration, a free eye camp was organised. Officials informed that 104 individuals utilised the services of the free camp.

"Glasses were provided to 18 individuals during the free camp," said Arun Kumar Mishra, chief of Tamakoshi's health section.

Mishra informed that Tamakoshi planned to train health personnel and manage equipment to provide quality eye treatment at an affordable cost.

"The main aim of the rural eye treatment centre is to end the need for the rural population to reach major cities by spending thousands of rupees unnecessarily," said Narayan Khadka, ward chairman of Ward No. 4.
