Mishra, Hamal win EU Human Rights Journalist Award

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 30:The Rising Nepal's Aashish Mishra and Gorkhapatra's Chandni Hamal are among the three winners of the European Union Human Rights Journalist Award for the year 2023.

Mishra, a journalist at this daily, won the award for his news 'Why can’t Kapalis have houses of their own?' The news was published on February 14 and explores the historical marginalisation of the Kapali community of Kathmandu Valley in the context of their housing.

Hamal, who reports for The Rising Nepal's sister publication Gorkhapatra, won for her reporting on child marriage in the Nepali-language news published under the headline 'Hatena Balvivah'.

Along with Mishra and Hamal, Kalimaiya Kumari Chaudhary (Unnati Chaudhary) also won the prize for her news on the Kamalari practice for the online news portal Sandhann. 

According to the Delegation of the European Union in Nepal, the articles and news reports of the three journalists were selected as the top three from all of the entries.
