By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July30: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha has said that good governance and socio-economic prosperity would be the true honour and reverence to the national martyrs.
Speaking after attending an afforestation programme and observing the Martyrs' Memorial located at National Martyrs and Peace Park, in Jagdol, Kathmandu, DPM Shrestha said that the memorial park depicted the political changes that took place in the country.
He said that the support of all agencies was necessary to include all the missing martyrs, the enforced disappearances caused by the state and people's movement in the martyrs' pillar constructed in the park. The government is ready to support with every possible means to construct the pillar inside the park, he said.
Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha said that great martyrs and the victims of enforced disappearance dedicated their lives for socio-economic transformation of the society and to uplift the standard of living of the people as well to institutionalize the achievements of peoples' movement. He also noted corruption and commission-seeking tendencies should be eliminated from the roots.
He said that the dream of a martyr could be fulfilled only by bringing the corrupt and commission-seekers to the legal sphere, and by controlling the tendency to work for vested interests misusing one's position and power.
That's why everyone's cooperation is necessary in the current anti-corruption crusade led by the government, he said.
"Those who are guilty and are in the process being proven guilty should face punishment," DPM Shrestha said.
