By Rajkumar Bhattarai,Khotang, July 26: Khotang's Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality has removed the headmasters of all community schools under its jurisdiction.

A meeting of the municipal executive held on Sunday decided to remove all headmasters from their posts and appoint new ones through open competition.

The municipality's spokesperson Dinesh Kumar Ghimire said that the decision was made as per the provisions of the federal Education Act, local Education Act, their related regulations and the working procedure drafted to select and manage school headmasters.

"The municipality drafted the working procedure and will work according to it," Mayor Tirtha Raj Bhattarai said.  "Both the federal and local laws give headmasters a tenure of five years and require them to be selected through an exam. The local government will follow this."

Ghimire informed that the serving headmasters would have the deputation to work in the position until new ones are selected.

All the schools in the municipality are presently closed and will open on August 1.  After they open, the municipality will call for applications from interested and qualified teachers.

They will then have to appear in an examination and go through a vetting process and the top candidate will be selected.
