By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 19: High-ranking government officials, ministers and diplomats reached Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday to pay tributes to Sita Dahal, CPN (Maoist Centre) leader and spouse of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on the 7th day of her demise.
Addressing the event, Prime Minister Prachanda said the outpouring of support he received during the mourning period served as a source of inspiration for him to rise above his grief and embrace a greater sense of responsibility towards society and the nation.
Expressing his gratitude, the Prime Minister said the support, sympathy, and goodwill extended by the people during the period of mourning not only aided in alleviating their pain, but also served as an inspiration for him and his family to assume greater responsibility towards the nation and society.
The respect and tributes bestowed upon late Sita, from the hospital to the party office and from Aryaghat to Baluwatar, were seen as a display of the people’s reverence for her sacrifices, dedication, and selflessness, said Prime Minister Prachanda.
“The outpouring of public expression and support following the passing away of my wife has instilled within me and my family a heightened sense of responsibility towards the nation and the people,” he added.
“The overwhelming support from the people and the genuine empathy demonstrated by everyone present have deeply inspired me to take on a more active and influential role in addressing the prevalent economic, social, and cultural inequalities in the Nepali society,” he added.
Prime Minister Prachanda said when his wife fell ill, he made every effort to provide her with the best possible treatment using all available and beneficial methods, without relying on any state resources.
He recalled that late Sita, who had always been compassionate and considerate towards others throughout her life, peacefully chose to embrace death without causing any pain to those around her.
Prime Minister Prachanda expressed his gratitude to all the doctors and medical professionals who were involved in Sita’s treatment.
He further extended his appreciation for the sympathy and solidarity he received from the heads of states and governments of friendly nations, as well as from the global community.
During the event, a brief video portraying the life of the late leader Sita was also presented.
Vice-President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timalsina, Speaker of House of Representatives Dev Raj Ghimire, Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki, Ministers, former Prime Ministers, former Vice-President, diplomats, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader of CPN (Unified Socialist) Jhala Nath Khanal, Nepal Samajwadi Party chairman Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai and other senior leaders participated in the programme.
Sita Dahal, who was also central adviser to the party, died at the age of 69 on July 12 while undergoing treatment at Norvic Hospital, Thapathali.
She had long been suffering from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy along with parkinsonism, diabetes and hypertension.
