By Amar Raj Naharki,Tanahun, July 8: The Ramayan building, which was built spending about Rs. 27.5 million in Chundiramgha, Bhanu Municipality-4, the birthplace of pioneer poet (Aadikabi) Bhanubhakta Acharya, has been left unused.
The building, whose construction was completed three years ago, has been left in an abandoned position.
As the building has been locked for a long time, the window glasses have broken and mites have attacked the wooden structures.
Locals said that the municipality has been hesitant in preserving the building although it pretended as if it had an interest in preserving the literary spot within its area.
Pampha Pariyar, a local, said that she was disappointed seeing thieves lifting many objects from the building, and the building becoming a dating spot for local youth.
As one has to walk to reach the place, outsiders rarely reach the building, Pariyar added.
Aadikabi Bhanubhakta Birthplace Development Committee established to research, conserve and promote the birthplace of the pioneer poet has been neglecting the Ramayan building, said Sandesh Acharya, another local.
He further said that for appropriate development and promotion of the place, all concerned authorities should pay attention.
He complained that the birthplace of Bahnubhakta was not shown respect, and it must be corrected.
The building was built by Aadikabi Bhanubhakta Birthplace Development Committee functioning under the Department of Tourism of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.
Although a master plan to build physical structures- residences, canteen, library, toilets and other physical structures within an area of about 10 ropanis of land exists, the area has been left unattended.
The estimated cost for the master plan is Rs. 160 million. To attract more tourists, there is a long-term master plan including the construction of a 100 feet tall statue of the pioneer poet of Nepali literature.
Operating vehicles has become impossible as the Dhananjaya motor road from Chundiramghabesi to Shikharkateri has not been upgraded.
There was a plan to engrave the verses of the Ramayana, and pictures related to the Ramayana on the walls of the conference hall of the building.
Local residents are demanding that the material related to Bhanu Bhakta and Ramayana should be preserved and developed as a literary destination.
Bharat Pokhrel, a resident of Bhanu Municipality-5, said that he felt sad seeing the Ramayana building in a dilapidated condition.
Bhanubhakta Acharya, the pioneer poet of Nepali language and literature, was born in Chundiramgha to father Dhananjay and mother Dharmavatidevi on July 14, 1814.
