Kamal Municipality sterilises 450 dogs

BY OUR CORRESPONDENT,Damak, May 24: Kamal Rural Municipality has set up camps for neutering (surgery done to prevent reproduction) and vaccinating stray dogs with anti-rabies vaccines. 

Hukum Singh Rai, chairman of Kamal Rural Municipality, said that more than 450 stray dogs were sterilised and vaccinated in the camp conducted with the technical support of Nepal Agri Livestock Training and Research Centre, Itahari.

He said that locals had a fear that their cattle would be infected with rabies after being bitten by stray dogs and even some accidents took place when cycle and motorcycle riders were chased by the dogs. In order to prevent such accidents we have sought for preventive measures, he added. 

The rural municipality has been neutering street dogs every year and included it in its policies and programmes. Last year, the camp was conducted in Ward No. 5 and this year the rural municipality has conducted it in Ward No. 6. 

Narendra Bhattarai, ward chair of Ward No. 6, said that the sterilisation of street dogs would help control the number of street dogs. So far more than 450 dogs of Ward No. 3 and 6 were sterilised, he added.
